sweat spots

We're walking sweat machines, with two to four million sweat glands on our bodies. We are designed to perspire all day and night, whether you're aware of it or not.

Sweating can be a an unpleasant physical response, we'd overheat without it. Our natural body temperature is 37 degrees Celsius and whenever we rise above that level - because of physical or emotional stress, sweat allows us to cool back down.

Hot weather and intese exercise are the most obvious ways of dialing up your body temperature, but there are many basic bodily functions that have the same effect. Even your stomach breaking down your lunch produces sweat - here are the four key sweat spots to keep an eye on.

A light film on the forehead during exercise and hot weather is a perfectly normal bodily response to raised boy temperature. Those with a nervous disposition will know, that even emotional or stressful situations will cause a beady brow. Even if you're lucky enough to not be overly concerned with sweating in other areas, you can't escape underarm sweat. There are a high concentration of apocrine glands here, and while the odour can be controlled with an anti-perspirant, a small percentage of men suffer from excessive sweating - a condition called axillary hyperhidrosis.

Sweaty palms are largely a social problem, and can prevent guys from being able to do something as simple as shake hands. Recent research shows that the syndrome may be genetic, and for the most amount of sufferers, the triggers are usually emotionally related. The best trick is to keep your cool, or keep a pocket of tissues handy.

There are more sweat glands on your feet than anywhere else on your body, which is why they're prone to smelling more than any other area. Ill fitting footwear that doesn’t enable feet to 'breathe' only makes the problem worse. Avoid canvas shoes, and grab insoles to freshen up.
